N/A SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting foundations by researching, prospecting, developing, and soliciting new, mutually beneficial partnerships with private, public, and corporate foundations in support of relevant focus areas as they relate to the overall goals of campus partners, the University's strategic priorities, and Advancement.
The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations develops strategies and directs fundraising initiatives for corporate, public, and private foundations.
The incumbent initiates and conducts personal visits with key foundation contacts as assigned and accompanies the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor of Advancement, deans, and/or faculty members on foundation visits as applicable.
The incumbent develops proposals and grant applications to foundations that meet donor guidelines and specifications as well as University fundraising priorities.
The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations provides timely reports of grants from foundations that have made philanthropic gifts to the University.
The Assistant Director of Foundation Relations collaborates with campus leaders, the Chancellor's Office, and other Institutional Advancement staff to secure gifts for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with regard to foundations.
The incumbent is responsible for managing relationships with foundations; identifying, cultivating, and soliciting target and prospective foundations; and providing appropriate stewardship of gifts from these constituencies.
EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Assures long-term financial support for University priorities by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting corporate, public, and private foundation donors Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive and proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing foundation relationships by coordinating activities related to obtaining corporate, private, and public foundation monetary support Manages the comprehensive corporate, private, and public foundation grant process for the University Monitors proposal deadlines, prepares budgets, prepares and edits grant proposals, manages the proposal submission process, and provides timely grant reporting to foundations as may be required Conducts various types of research to develop information for reports about viable foundation funding prospects Develops highly competitive proposals for corporate, private, and public foundation prospects that leverage diverse foundation goals and preferences with related University goals and priorities, and maintains and uses current knowledge of the various foundation interests to actively seek to match them with University fundraising goals, needs, and priorities When appropriate, hosts campus visits by foundation representatives and participates in and/or arranges visits to foundations by the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor of Advancement, deans, and/or faculty members as applicable Shares funding opportunities with relevant internal parties Serves as primary liaison for Advancement with Office of Research Administration Identifies and coordinates interdepartmental and inter-school/collegiate collaborations related to foundation funding opportunities Communicates regularly with public and government affairs about new and existing initiatives Migrates relationships as appropriate to campus partners for ongoing relationship management Accountable for meeting fundraising and activity goals for assigned portfolio of responsibilities Maintains up-to-date reports and records of all transactions Attends conferences, meetings, and industry events.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree
Experience:
Demonstrated (three or more years) professional experience in research, relationship management, and/or fundraising.
OTHER:
Position may require regional, national, and international travel.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Working knowledge of foundation research, development/fundraising concepts and techniques Strong verbal and written communication skills Organizational skills, particularly planning, setting deadlines, and evaluating progress Computer literacy, using internet resources, and using databases Ability to take initiative and committed to follow-through Ability to meet inflexible deadlines, establish and manage multiple priorities, and establish and achieve fundraising goals Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with donors, volunteers, deans, faculty, and staff Ability to adapt and respond to various situations Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective foundations, and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from foundation donors at the six-figure level of giving PREFERRED
Qualifications:
Over three years experience within a higher education fundraising setting Experience in grant writing or other similar professional writing is preferred Master's Degree preferred Salary for ESU:
Salary is commensurate with experience.
