Southeastern Massachusetts Educational Collaborative Southeastern Massachusetts Educational Collaborative Dartmouth, MA Dartmouth, MA Part-time Part-time $18 an hour $18 an hour 4 days ago 4 days ago 4 days ago The Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting and assisting members with developmental disabilities to/from day programs and as otherwise needed in vans ranging from 7-15 passengers in size.
This position is approximately 15-20 hours per week, Monday-Friday, working on a split shift.
The morning transportation route is approximately 8:
00am - 9:
30am, and the afternoon transportation route is approximately 2:
30pm - 4:
00pm.
CORI, SAFIS, and driving history checks are required for all positions.
Essential Duties:
1.
Obey all Massachusetts state laws regarding driving, including but not limited to, following the speed limit, texting and driving, and ensuring that everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt at all times.
2.
Conducts daily safety check of the vehicle and report any mechanical problems to the Transportation manager as soon as possible.
Accurately completes vehicle maintenance forms and maintain vehicle logs.
3.
Responsible for handling of the members belongings from home residences to/from day programs.
4.
Provide assistance to members with mobility including lifting.
5.
Daily cleaning and gas-up of the vehicle.
6.
Practice defensive driving techniques at all times.
7.
Learn and utilize the appropriate techniques for utilizing the wheelchair vans including ramps, lifts and wheelchair tie-downs.
8.
Handling of emergency situations, including evacuation and supervision of members during transport until emergency assistance arrives.
9.
Follow procedures whenever a SMEC vehicle is involved in an accident, including calling police and completing necessary paperwork.
10.
Ability and willingness to drive any of the SMEC vehicles during inclement weather.
11.
Shows respect and compassion for all members of the program environment including members, families, staff, and other community members.
12.
Effectively utilizes any recommended adaptive equipment for individual members.
13.
Participates in all required Collaborative in-services as well as those recommended by supervisors.
14.
Communicate all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectful and timely manner.
15.
Maintains an open, honest, and respectful relationship with parents and others involved with the member's success.
16.
Maintains professional boundaries with parents and members.
17.
Expected to read and adhere to all Employee Handbook policies.
